On Tuesday, I took my grandma to the doctor for a check up so she could get her prescriptions refilled. During the routine exam, the nurse practitioner found a lump on grandma's breast. So on Thursday, she had an ultrasound done and this Monday I'm taking to another doctor along with the ultrasounds to see what is up. I'm assuming this doctor we are seeing is going to biopsy the lump. There is no history of breast cancer on either side of my family, so we have that going for us. Fingers are crossed.

I made a move in World of Warcraft. I transferred my human priest to another server and will be faction changing her when I get the funds for that. I was having a bit of buyer's remorse, since my priest was in a lovely guild on her old server. I just needed a new start with the game. I still have a toon on my old server and will try to get her into the old guild.

Just made some crepes. My first time making them. Smothered them with strawberries and Cool Whip. Very delish. Yum. First one was rather freakish, but the second and third were near perfect.

Had a rather uneventful Easter. No freak blizzards that stranded family at home. We actually cut down on the amount of food made, but it was still a lot.

My parents got a new tv. They got a 32 inch LCD HDTV. I got their older 30 inch widescreen HDTV. Made my day. Now I got to get a new dvd player to actually make use of the HD.

I've come to the realization that I'm a weekend parent. My oldest niece and nephew are always here. I haven't figured out why they like it here. they can't say that its because of the computer anymore. They both have computers now, though their dad controls their internet access via the router. They have better game consoles than me. Kids.

Been doing major cleaning over the past several weeks. I'm going to be honest. I'm a horrible housekeeper and I keep everything. I try hard not to keep things, but I fail at that. So now I'm making a lifestyle change. It's just going to take a while to toss everything I know I don't need nor want. When I first moved into my apartment, I told myself that I wasn't going to become my great aunt, or even my mom. First year actually went well, but then if fell apart. Now I just need to pull it all back together.

I've made improvements. I got rid of my very large entertainment center. It had become a catch all in recent years. I replaced that with shelving, but I placed them high so it's too much of a chore to put crap on it. They are displaying my porcelain dolls and a few knick knacks. One of the shelves extends over my desk, so that got a few office supplies on it.

I'm trying.

Spring has arrived, and of course the Red River decided to pitch a fit and rise. Not as bad this year as last, thankfully. The days have been pretty nice, if a bit windy. we could use maybe a little rain to clean off the winter residue, but I'll prefer for that to wait until the mud dries. There's a nice shoe print out in the parking that I made when my foot decided to sink a good 3 inches. My poor shoe.

The last time I made an entry, I was looking at building my own budget gaming pc. That pc is now running. Beautifully. Silently. I think I may marry it. I love it so. Well, maybe not marry it, but we are not going to be separating anytime soon. I've always wanted a very good computer, and I think I got that. Windows 7 has been a dream of an os. I thought XP was a good os, but Vista was crapware. My poor laptop. Maybe I should save up and buy another copy of 7 to put on that. The new computer has really made me happy when I play games now. I can put WoW on the best settings. I didn't know how beautiful that game is until now, and I've been playing it for nearly 3 years (holy cow).

I recently made a Steam account. First game I downloaded was Torchlight. It was only $5 at the time, though that offer ended and it's back to $19.99. But I would have payed the full price if I knew that game was a good as it is. Thin story, but the game play and graphics are great. It's an rpg dungeon crawler in the vein of Diablo. I've had hours of fun so far, and my nephew even tried it and is going to ask my brother in law if he can get it. I hope to download more games whenever I can afford them.

My parents finally got an RV. I found one on Craigslist that fit my dad's criteria. It's a 1976 Dodge. Not sure what it's called. It's a 24 footer. Definitely 70s, but the seller had recently done some work on the inside. The floor is most certainly not 70s. It seems to run well for it's age. We don't plan to take it far anyway. The farthest it may go is Itasca State Park, which is only 2 hours or so away. I get to take it for a week, and that's where I want to go. Itasca has wi-fi in certain areas.

Salem, the newest member of my family, got neutered last week. He seems to have taken very well to not having working parts. The vet did discover he had ear mites. She took care of them, and I bought the drops to put in my other cats ears. Luckily, MewMew was all clear. She refuses to let Salem near her, so that is probably why. Crookshanks seemed to have a small problem in his ears, so I put the solution in. Not to hard of a problem to solve. Of course, he got them. He and Salem play and sleep with each other.

Well, time to go. It's getting late, and I'm yawning quite a bit right now. Bye!

Well, due to complete and utter frustration with not being able to play some pc games that are totally grabbing my attention, I'm building my first gaming pc. I had decided this late last year, but thought I would only be able to get a part here, maybe a few parts there and have a machine up and running before the fall. But I did my income tax return on Sunday and found I was getting much more than I expected. So I made my wish list at Newegg, with a major bit of help from my brother-in-law and the fine folks at Tekzilla. Here is my list:

AMD Athlon II X4 620 Propus
XFX HD-477A-YDFC Radeon HD 4770
Rosewill CHALLENGER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium

I originally had a hard drive on the list, but took it off since I just bought one late last year to replace the one that was dying in my eMachine, so I can just take that out and use it and get a cheaper and smaller one in the eMachine. I also was looking at a different video card, the SAPPHIRE 100283-2L Radeon HD 5770, but decided to go for a bit smaller and cheaper one to save money right now. But that will be easy to upgrade in time if I choose to do so. Overall, I'm quite happy with this list. I am also looking forward to getting Windows 7. Now I just need for my federal return to come and I can order the items and get it up and running.

I can't wait to geek out. :D

Looked at the blog and realized I haven't posted anything since November. Life has been most busy for me, but not busy enough to write exciting tales about it.

So first, I'll start with most recent news. I got a new dining table Thursday. Well, it's more of a pub style table with two padded stools that tuck under it. It's counter high and small, which is something I had been looking for in a dining table. I love it so far. I had been looking at another pub style one at the same store. The one I chose is rustic, but all straight lines, while the other was quite modern. But I didn't like the stools. They weren't padded and when I sat on them I slid around too much. Padded seats FTW.

January 1 of this new year found my dad starting his retirement. He has worked since the age of 11 or so. For the last 36 years, he worked at American Crystal, which makes sugar. So far, he and my mom have not killed each other. My dad's stress level has gone down dramatically. He's even smoking less. Still would like to see him quit, but a pack over two days is better than the pack and a half a day he was smoking. The main thing going on for them right now is that they still have custody of two of my youngest sister's children. The third one is back with her. They hope to be free of custody before summer.

As I posted early last winter, I took in a cat that I named Blizz. Blizz no longer lives here. I had to get rid of him last summer after he attacked my other cats, my nieces and nephews and then me. All unprovoked. He was a beautiful cat and was nice up until the summer, but I don't know what happened to trigger his sudden aggressiveness. I know MewMew has attacked before, but she had done so when Crookshanks would frighten her in some way, and she has calmed down, or at least just goes as far away from visitors as possible and ignores them.

But, I got another cat just before Thanksgiving. My niece's best friend found a starving and hurt kitten. She couldn't keep him, but they didn't want to toss her out. They called me first, and I said no. They tried my mom, who said no as well. Then they were going to try my aunt. I said yes when I heard that. My aunt already has a houseful of animals. She has four beagles and one cat. I don't think the kitten could have handled that. So to describe him, he's all black with few white hairs on his neck. My niece and her friend named him Salem, after Sabrina the Teenages Witch's cat. He no longer is starving. He's got a good belly on him now, and his injuries are healed. I think he got in a fight with a larger animal. I do need to get him fixed when I get the funds. I think with my income tax return. But Crookshanks likes him a lot. At least that's what I assume since he insists on licking and cuddling him. MewMew just tries to ignore him. She's such an antisocial little thing, isn't she. :D

I should talk about Christmas. We had a major snowstorm/blizzard Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Dumper nearly two feet of snow on us. It didn't totally ruin Christmas, but we couldn't get over to my grandma's to get her and my younger sister and family (except for her two older children, who walked to my place, but they spent the night afterwards) were completely snowbound since they live on a dead end street that saw no traffic to make tracks. My youngest sister made it, as did my uncle, who had come to town a day early. They managed to walk to a more driven though street to meet my dad. Driving around town was a miserable experience. My parents van got stuck numerous times. My dad and I bagged up gifts for my grandma and my mom made up a plate of food for her. Dad and I parked in front of the hardware store on the highway (thank goodness the highway dept. had been out) and then we walked the remaining two blocks, through drifts of snow, to bring her the stuff. She was surprised to see us. But we believed she needed a Christmas meal on Christmas day. My poor dad had to take a nitro for his heart when we got home. He just exerted himself too much. I managed to get my sister and uncle to her house. Well, I actually got a block away and they ended up walking the rest. I stayed as best I could in tracks made by other vehicles so I wouldn't get stuck. Still managed to get stuck when I got near home, but just backed up and sped my way through.

Works been going well. Next month will be interesting though. My boss goes on vacation, but two of my coworkers are also planning vacations around the same time. If that happens, I will be the one in charge. Normally, when the boss goes vacation, we split duties. I still have the biggest load, but they do the daytime stuff. Taking money to the bank, getting change, dealing with the sales people. It's not completely certain that both coworkers are going at the same time. I don't mind A going. But if D goes, that would suck. She's my partner in keeping the store running smoothly during that time.

I didn't participate in NaNoWriMo last November. Didn't have time. I was okay with that. Still am. I really want to work on some stuff I've already written.

Working on D's laptop. It's having a bit of a malware problem that I found. It's called Windows Vista. :D

This entry is getting quite long, so I'm going to end here. Hopefully, I will update more often than last year. Bye for now.

...until you have to go through the same fears.

Been watching the news today about the shooting at Fort Hood. My cousin and her family live there, as her husband is an MP. Normally, I would watch and feel sorrow for the families of the victim and even the shooters family. But I was always disconnected. No one I know has ever been involved or near any of these events.

But now I know. Seeing the fear that was coming through loud and clear on my cousin's facebook because her phone had died and she couldn't reach her husband and children. Not knowing where they were can crush a soul. Fortunately, my cousin was able to get through to her husband using facebook. They are all separated at this time. She's in an office building that is locked down, he's at home and both their children are locked down at school. The fears that were felt by myself and my family have lessened, but our sadness for the lives lost and injured are quite strong. I'm sure my cousin and husband knew at least one of the victims.

How heartbreaking this is.

I was just at ExtraLife, and Scott Johnson had created a little list of his favorite sci-fi movies after seeing District 9 (which I want to see so very much along with Moon). It got me to thinking of my favorite sci-fi movies.

Now, I love sci-fi. I fell into being a fan of the genre back in 83-85 with the miniseries V and watching the anime Robotech. I’d seen the original Star Trek series, but wasn’t what you would call a fan. That didn’t happen until Star Trek the Next Generation. :D

1. Blade Runner – This one is probably on nearly every sci-fi fan list. I first saw it when I was going through a Harrison Ford movie binge. The only copy the rental counter at the grocery store had was the original theatrical cut. I didn’t think much of it. Then my sister and brother in law bought me the director’s cut for Christmas a few years later. So much better. Instantly had me. I now own the final cut and all the other versions from the nice set that came out a few years ago.

2. Galaxy Quest – Yes, I know it’s a comedy. Yes, I know it’s send up of all things sci-fi geek. But darn it is funny with just a great cast that works.

3. The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension – Cheesy, campy and makes absolutely no sense. Discovered it when I was home sick from school on HBO. I’ve watched it when not under the influence of cold meds too. Either way works. :D

4. Star Wars Trilogy – Can’t have a proper list without Star Wars. A New Hope was great. The Empire Strikes Back was better. The Return of the Jedi was good. The nice thing about Star Wars is that it’s a great way to introduce new people to sci-fi.

5. Star Trek – And I mean the reboot version from this year. I love the Star Trek family of movies and tv shows, but this movie just kicked it up several notches.

6. Stargate – I don’t think the movie gets as much love as the series. But it’s good. Honest. And I love me some Kurt Russel being all macho.

7. Contact – This one is bit more thinking man’s sci-fi in my opinion. It really makes a person question a lot of things, that’s for sure.

I’m sure I’ll come back to this list as my mind rolls over the subject longer.

Been nearly a month.

I’ve been doing, well, not much. Things have been pretty boring around here. It’s been flooding in the Red River Valley, but I’m 16 miles east of the river and my town didn’t have any trouble with water.

Got my new computer monitor. It’s a Gateway HD2201. It was a good price and I really liked it over the others in the same price range. Also got myself a new cell phone, the LG Scoop. One of the common complaints about it is it’s lousy camera. My opinion. Phones are for talking and texting. When I want to take a picture, I use my camera that I always carry in my purse. Some people are never happy.

I’m trying to decide if I should snack on an orange or the fresh pineapple I got. Hm.

It’s a week from my birthday. Decided to go through some things and found a birthday card from last year. It was the last one my late aunt Karen sent me.

Well, I forgot to update you all on my lost billfold. It was found the following Monday. Everything was still in there, but I forged ahead with changing everything anyway. Better safe than sorry. Got all my replacement cards. Yay!

Did my taxes. I’m getting a nice chunk for federal so I plan to get a larger monitor for my desktop. I’m thinking larger than 19 inches. My computer is where I pretty much watch movies and tv shows now days, so why not. It will be worth it.

Been battling a cold for the past week. I’ve been miserable. Hopefully I can get rid of it this weekend, since I don’t have to work.

Friday was my worst day ever. My billfold was lost/stolen while I was shopping with my mom. I had to put a stop on my checking account and report my credit cards lost to the card companies. Tuesday I have to go to the DMV and get a new license, as that was in there too.

Had to cancel a few things that are automatically withdrawn on my cards, including my WoW account and website. :(

Such a pain in the ass.

I actually went outside today.  Tagged along with my sister and niece as they ran some errands.  One of the stops was to a local boutique because my niece wanted a new Webkinz.  Cute things.  She got a dinosaur.  I walked out with a skunk I named Fleur. :D

My niece also got a haircut that looks absolutely beautiful on her.  She’s only 11, but she looked so grownup today. :(

The weather decided that snow wasn’t enough for us.  Today we got freezing rain, so now it’s dangerously icy out.  Schools are closed, people called into work, and I now have nothing to do today.  I was supposed to go to the food shelf, but we are now closed due to the weather.

I’m just glad the weather waited to get yucky until after I got home.
